On reading the offset printingborn stanza of the poem I accomplished that it was written in first person narrative: as the poet begins by saying that This morning I watched from here. Using first person narrative rejoins the poem a personal termination as the poet is describing his sightings from his hotel windowpane. McCaigs first description is the simile that he used to describe the helicopter which is circling round the Pan AM Building: skirting like a modify insect. McCaig so uses a metaphor and compares the Empire State Building to a jumbo size dentists workout. I matt-up up as though these two techniques gave the impression that the poet was perhaps sen sentencent of some sort of pain and suffering, as a discredited insect would be in pain and a dentists course session would refund you some kind of painful or slimy experience. I thought that the comparison and mention of pain and idol worship could be a metaphor, for what he is seeing out of his window w hich may be violence. This shocked me as I eer believed America to be a rather civil country. The reference work to size in both the simile and metaphor give an idea of the scale of the skyscrapers, the helicopter is seen as small against the outstanding buildings and the buildings themselves are seen to be jumbo sized versions of different objects.

This brought the writing of pain and suffering into the poem which is again portrayed through-out some other stanza. A sense of a change in era was illustrated in the poem as the poem starts off at morning and then suddenly midnight has come in from abroad places. The mention of midnight and foreign places made me feel as though the poet was describing some sort of evil in! the streets of New York, as midnight is dark and I felt as though it punt tooth give the sense of evil which is normally dark and creepy. As for the mention of foreign places, I got the impression that, the poet meant that evil was cast of attack to New York from all over America and speech job and violence, which relates to the theme of pain and suffering...If you want to get a generous essay, order it on our website:
