The hopes and dreams of freedom for African Americans were crushed after the polite state of war, because of black codes and the intimidation with terror and violence from veteran confederates that organize the terrorist group c anyed the Ku Klux Klan. As newly freed slaves, blacks found out real short that freedom was not how they dreamed. In 1865, southerners created black codes that controlled all aspects of blacks lives and stopped new found African Americans from the freedom that they had won from the civil war.
Almost every deduct of freedwomans lives was regulated by black codes crimson the freedom to migrate. Blacks could not enter certain towns without permission so hopes of finding family that were sold during slavery were a challenge. There was too vagrancy laws that stated all freedman were vagrant if they did not stool a job or they were homeless. Black codes made separationism in public facilities, carrying any kind of weapons, and to testify in court against white men highly illegal. Breaking these codes came with the consequences of imprisonment.
Black codes gave freedman certain compensates such as the right to marry, and the right to own some land. The Fifthteenth Amendment gave blacks there right to vote.

That right was soon crushed by ex- confederates and a terrorist group that formed and called themselves the Ku Klux Klan. The Klan treasured to keep freedmen in there place as poor and powerless laborers. They believed in total white supremacy.
